Featured Project
Miss Panama
In 1980, Gloria Karamañites became the first Black woman to be named Miss Panama. Prior to her victory, pageant officials maneuvered to deny her the crown by demanding that she answer an additional obscure legal question. MISS PANAMA is a short documentary exploring Gloria’s experiences navigating racism, and the actions taken by the Afro-Panamanian community to rally around their Queen and defend her efforts to represent the country.
"I am currently working in post-production with Melina. From our very first interview, she approached the project with deep curiosity for my vision, our protagonist's vision and how this connected to her values, skills and creative drive. She had the monumental task of sorting through 4 years of footage from different countries and in different languages. Her multicultural perspective and creative story-telling approach truly made a difference in our project. She is extremely professional and has a detailed workflow that I hope to continue referring to for years to come."

“Melina served as a consulting editor to improve our feature doc work sample and her expertise has proven to be invaluable. Her perspective is fresh, sharp and unexpected in many ways, bringing up many issues we were blind to. She asked the right questions, shared extensive notes, and offered many ideas for improving the cut. I am grateful that Melina shared her expertise early enough in the production process that we have time to film additional scenes that address the issues she brought up."
